The tenant association

The Association of Tenants in Iceland was founded in 2013 and has since been re-established twice, most recently in the fall of 2021. About 40,000 homes are estimated to be on the rental market in this country, and those of us who were involved in the re-establishment of the association feel that the time has come to strengthen and encourage this large group , but it can be argued that tenants are the group in Iceland that fares worst in international comparisons. Our purpose is to improve the rights and interests of tenants who are, to say the least, disadvantaged in the environment of greed and inhumanity that characterizes the Icelandic rental market. It is quite possible that with solidarity we can achieve success, as it is a large group of people and we encourage everyone to join the organization and take part in our powerful work. Services

The consumer association provides services to tenants on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs, but it is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We, the Tenants Association, are amateurs and do not pretend to have legal knowledge. However, we have an active and powerful community on Facebook (tenants' discussion group) and answer questions we receive.

Objectives

The aim of the association is to improve the situation of tenants and to demand that the government fulfill its obligations in housing matters. Tenants are at a disadvantage in society with burdensome housing costs and a high level of insecurity. The tenants' association aims to become a large and serving interest group for tenants.

It is in our hands to change the situation, Together we achieve success.
