The tenants' association sought to extrapolate the age trend of tenants based on Statistics Iceland's last measurement of the age composition of tenants from 2016. For some reason, Statistics Iceland has not measured the age composition of tenants since then.

If figures on the expansion of the rental market, population growth and figures on the movements of various age groups in the rental market obtained from surveys in past years, it is possible to extrapolate the likely trend in the age of tenants. It is clear that tenants are getting older and, in the future, large groups of tenants will be on the public rental market when they reach retirement age. Pensioners in the rental market are the group that lives in the most difficult conditions.

The tenants' association compiled facts about the situation of tenants and extrapolated probable trends in the age of tenants and the size of age groups.
